Real Support. Real Relationships. Real Transformation.
When Luis first connected with Youth Collaborative, he wasn’t regularly attending school, and his mom was desperate for support.
When our team showed up to complete an intake, Luis wasn’t interested. He respectfully declined services.
But we didn’t walk away.
We let him know we would keep showing up, not to pressure him, but to prove that we were there for the right reasons. That we weren’t giving up on him.
Eventually, Luis gave us a chance.
Like many young people, his journey wasn’t perfect. There were setbacks along the way, but through every challenge, we stayed consistent. We walked beside him every step of the way.
At one point, Luis experienced homelessness. During that time, our team drove through the community daily to find him bringing food, clean clothes, and making sure he still had a way to get to school.
We didn’t lose contact. We didn’t give up.
Over time, things began to shift. Luis re-engaged, stayed committed, and eventually enrolled in a trade school.
Today, he has successfully completed his program and is doing outstanding.
He still reaches out to our team checking in regularly and sharing updates about his accomplishments.
Luis’s story is a reflection of what’s possible when someone refuses to give up on a young person.

Youth Collaborative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering our community through various programs and initiatives. Our mission is to make a positive impact and create a better future for all.
At Youth Collaborative, our work doesn’t happen behind a desk, it happens in real time, in real life. From early morning school drop-offs to late-night crisis calls, our team walks alongside youth through every challenge, every milestone, and every moment in between. The young people we serve are often navigating complex barriers, and one service alone is never enough.
So we don’t offer just one thing, we provide consistent, daily support across every part of their lives.
We help young people stay connected to their education and build a path forward.
We prepare youth for independence and long-term success.
We show up when it matters most, especially in high-risk moments.
We support the entire environment around the young person.
At the core of our work is consistent, trusted relationships.
Many of the youth we serve are navigating multiple systems—education, justice, family, and community all at once. Without consistent support, it’s easy to fall through the cracks.
That’s why our work doesn’t happen in just one place. It happens:
Wherever our youth are, that’s where we go.
We are grateful for our continued partnership with The Winston-Salem Foundation and their commitment to strengthening our community. Through their support and guidance, our organization was able to secure a $40,000 grant that will directly enhance our job skills and workforce readiness programs.
This funding will also help provide transportation support, ensuring youth can reliably get to work, school, and tutoring opportunities, removing barriers that often stand in the way of success. By addressing both skill development and access, this grant allows us to better support young people as they work toward stability, independence, and long-term success here in Winston-Salem.
